§ 01What is a cookie?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They make things like staying signed in or remembering your preferences possible. Browser local storage (localStorage) used for similar purposes is also covered by this policy.

§ 02Essential cookies

The site cannot work without these, so no consent is required:

• Session cookies (sb-…) — keep you securely signed in.
• gd_guest — links the searches you run without an account, and your free allowance, without storing your identity.
• gd_ws — remembers the workspace you last selected if you have more than one.
• Security cookies — may be set by our infrastructure provider Cloudflare for bot and abuse protection.

§ 03Preference storage

Your light or dark theme choice (gd-theme) and your cookie choice (gd-consent) are kept only in your browser's local storage and are never sent to our servers.

§ 04Analytics

We manage tags through Google Tag Manager and use Google Consent Mode v2: analytics and marketing tags do not set cookies until you consent. If you consent, tools such as Google Analytics may use cookies to measure how pages are used.

Your search text and account data are never sent to these tools. You can change your choice at any time via the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of the site.

§ 05Advertising and tracking

Marketing measurement (for example, tags that measure the conversions of ad campaigns) runs only with your explicit consent. We never sell or share your data for cross-site profiling.

§ 06Managing cookies

You can view, delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, features such as signing in and free searches may not work. Payments take place on Polar's own domain; cookies used there are subject to Polar's policies.
